The Maria & Nora Foundation, in collaboration with local medical volunteers and pharmacies, hosted a successful two-day health outreach in Makurdi, Benue State. The event, held at the Catholic Church in the heart of the city, served over 2,000 residents—providing free medical consultations, basic treatments, medications, and health screenings.
The outreach primarily targeted non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and malaria, which remain prevalent in underserved communities. Volunteer doctors also conducted workshops on nutrition, maternal health, and disease prevention, emphasizing the importance of early detection and regular health checkups.
According to Dr. Peter Enenche Ochogwu, the lead medical volunteer, “Health is a human right, not a privilege. This outreach helps bridge the gap for many who can’t afford regular care.” The success of the event has sparked plans for similar outreaches in three other north eastern states in the coming months.
